Ulcers Have a Bad Attitude

Ulcers are really bad news, generally. They are not kind to your feet and can cause severe harm. They are mostly seen in diabetics due to their lowered healing ability and lack of sensation. Ulcers can develop on the ball of the foot or underneath the big toe.

Diabetics must attend to wounds on their feet with the highest upkeep. Diabetic ulcers are breaks in the skin that can form from the smallest of wounds. If these sores are overlooked, amputations can result from serious complications. If diabetics do not notice that a wound has become infected on their foot and they already have a lowered ability to heal such wounds, it can be a recipe for disaster!

There are a number of people who are prone to developing ulcers. Those people tend to be alcoholics or have vascular complications. If the sore gets infected and is left untouched, it could mean that an amputation will be needed. So, check your feet daily and please do not let a tiny wound turn into an infected ulcer in the middle of your foot. With the right treatment, early on, you can save your feet.

Treatment for this condition includes:

● A medical professional can remove the outer layers of infected ulceration.

● Anything you can do to decrease the amount of pressure around your ulcer will be helpful. This may include using a special boot.

● Use medicated creams and ointments on the ulcer to destroy any surface infections. Moreover, take antibiotics to kill an infection that’s spread into the bloodstream from the ulcer.

● Participate in targeted physical therapy that can increase blood flow to the feet. This can help increase healing.
