Blisters Aren't Blissful

Blisters on the feet can hurt! Everybody has had some experience with these, but perhaps not as much on the feet. You see, blisters are pockets of fluid that form in between layers of skin and are usually the result of excess dampness, rubbing, and hot temperatures. Wondering what type of environment your feet may be exposed to that sounds similar? Well, you don’t need to look too far because it can often be found in your shoes!

The primary purpose of blisters is to prevent significant damage to inner layers of the skin. So if wear shoes that simply do not fit correctly, have first or second-degree burns, experience excessive rubbing and pinching of the skin of the foot, or expose your feet to chemicals found in detergents or other cleaning products and infections, you may be looking at blisters that form in response to these common causes. Blisters can be painful, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a victim. Proper treatment can go a long way to preventing pain.

 Treatment for this condition includes:

●  Use bandages to cover the blister to prevent further agitation.

●  Keep feet dry and expose them to fresh air to prevent excess moisture buildup.

●  Wear shoes that are comfortable can help to reduce friction and stop the skin from becoming irritated.

●  Use medicated foot powder to combat sweating.

●  Use orthotic insoles to absorb pressure from the ground when you walk so that your feet don’t have to.

●  Reduce intense activities that contribute to the formation of blisters. A little rest can help the skin of the foot to stay resistant to blisters.
